Alinta Energy today launched Western Australia’s largest lithium ion battery at its Newman Power Station in the Pilbara region. The 30 MW (11.4 MWh) battery is among the world’s largest and is the largest Australian battery to be developed for an industrial application.

Alinta Energy has launched the first capped gas plan for residential customers in Western Australia, delivering certainty for consumers and eliminating bill shock by capping gas bills. Alinta Energy customers who choose the Home Capped Gas Plan will be able to use the gas they need and, as an added bonus, use up to 50% more Natural Gas for one fixed price per month.

FIRB Approves Sale of Alinta Energy to CTFE

Alinta Energy Limited (“Alinta”) has been advised by Chow Tai Fook Enterprises Limited (“CTFE”) that the Foreign Investment Review Board (“FIRB”) confirmed the Commonwealth has no objections to CTFE acquiring 100 per cent of the issued shares in Alinta. If fully developed, the Yandin investment is expected to cost Alinta Energy up to $600 million and produce enough electricity to supply the equivalent of up to 225,000 West Australian homes.

Augusta Power Station ceases generation

Augusta Power Station will today cease power generation, with Northern Power Station being brought offline at approximately 9:30am (ACST). Disconnecting Northern Power Station from the network will mark the official closure of Flinders Operations, which encompasses Augusta Power Stations, Leigh Creek Coal Mine and coal haulage operations. Alinta Energy continues to manage and operate the Leigh Creek Town and is working with SA Government to transition the town back to government.

Alinta signs gas sales agreement with Chevron

Alinta Energy today announced that it has signed a new gas sales agreement (GSA) with Chevron (TAPL) Pty Ltd, for the purchase of 20 petajoules (PJ) of gas per annum. The gas will be supplied from the Chevron operated Wheatstone Project over a period of seven years, commencing 2020.

Flinders Operations Update

Alinta Energy today confirmed that its Flinders Operations will close on 31 March 2016, in line with previous guidance. Timing for this closure means that operational mining at Leigh Creek will cease on 17 November 2015 and the Augusta Power Stations plan to cease generation around 31 March 2016.

Flinders Operations Closure Update

Alinta Energy today provided an update to employees and other stakeholders around the timeframe for closure of the Flinders Operations in Port Augusta (Northern & Playford B Power Stations) and Leigh Creek (Leigh Creek Mine). Following the ongoing development of the closure plan, Flinders Operations will not operate beyond March 2017. An earlier closure date will not be before March 2016, and only if circumstances warrant.

Flinders Operations Announcement

Alinta Energy today announced its Flinders Operations in Port Augusta (Northern & Playford B Power Stations) and Leigh Creek (Leigh Creek Mine) will not operate beyond March 2018 (and may close earlier but not before March 2016) as its continuing operation had become increasingly uneconomic.

Alinta Energy CEO, Jeff Dimery said the company had communicated the closure decision with its employees and key stakeholders and was committed to working closely with the South Australian Government, the representative unions and local communities in Leigh Creek and Port Augusta to prepare for the cessation of the Flinders Operations.

Alinta Energy recognised for support of RFDS

Power generator and energy retailer, Alinta Energy, has been recognised for its significant support of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) Central Operations with the unveiling of an Alinta Energy badged RFDS aircraft in Port Augusta today.

The newly badged ‘flying intensive care unit’ (VH-FVE – Foxtrot-Victor-Echo) is one of 11 medically-equipped Pilatus PC-12 aircraft owned and operated by RFDS Central Operations across its Adelaide, Port Augusta and Alice Springs Bases. It is one of 64 RFDS aircraft located throughout Australia.
